What is Lagoa?
We are a global company with offices in Montreal, Bonn, Boston and Mumbai. We are building the world’s first photoreal 3D rendering and collaboration platform for the browser. Our interactive technology enables designers, engineers, architects and advertisers to collaborate while rendering and finalizing great 3D content.
What is MultiOptics?
MultiOptics™ is our proprietary unbiased physically based renderer, which accurately simulates the light interactions between the multiple optical properties found in real-world materials. For example glass, ceramics, metals, hair, cloth, coated surfaces all behave differently when light interacts with them. MultiOptics is based on real-world physics and uses measured materials. Our engine is highly interactive, and the editing is real-time even when rendering millions of triangles.
What is Unbiased Rendering?
Unbiased rendering essentially means we don’t ‘cheat’ the lighting to render a 3D image. Many ‘biased’ rendering platforms like OpenGL, require the artist or TD to ‘place’ special lighting in a scene to give it a photo-real quality. Not so with MultiOptics, with one light source, the materials and image data is realistic. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unbiased_rendering
What Are Measured Materials and How Do I Get Them?
We take specimens of real-world objects and measure their multiple optical properties in a laboratory. The output of which gets added to our exclusive material library. Variations can be saved and reused inside Lagoa. To have your own materials measured please contact us at email@example.com
What is Interactive Cloud Rendering?
Lagoa interactive cloud rendering means you access the power of the cloud when rendering and see all the changes instantly. Lagoa cloud rendering always uses the fastest machines available.
Cloud rendering for other companies means submitting a file or job to a farm or service to render; then receiving images back later when the job is completed.
What is the Difference Between Cloud Rendering and Local Rendering?
Using Lagoa you utilize the power of the cloud (IE remote machines) to do the interactive rendering for you. This means your laptop becomes as powerful as a desktop machine. Local rendering uses the CPUs of your machine (laptop or desktop) to do the rendering. So you will not only be restricted by the limitations of your machine. Local rendering generally uses all of your CPUs and cores, meaning you can’t do anything else while rendering. But with Lagoa’s cloud rendering doing all the heavy lifting, you can continue to use other applications.
Is MultiOptics a Plugin?
No. Lagoa is a standalone proprietary unbiased rendering engine that is offered on the Cloud.
What Does “Collaboration” Really Mean in Lagoa?
Our target markets; advertising, architectural visualization, product prototyping, or automotive design have scores of participants who are constantly providing input, feedback and opinions; from the 3D artist, to the producer, layout artist, photographer, marketing director and finally the client. Lagoa has incorporated a fast, efficient, and detailed collaboration element, with real-time chat, simultaneous scene editing, render updates and history/sign off tracking.
Installation, Licensing, Platforms and System Requirements
Do I Have to Install Lagoa?
No, you don’t have to install anything to use Lagoa, just open a browser and login to Lagoa.com to start rendering.
Does Lagoa Require a License to Run?
Is There a Trial Version?
No need for a trial version, there is a free full-featured version available to everyone – just login to Lagoa.com to access it.
Can I Work Offline?
No, you must be connected to the internet to access Lagoa
Which Platforms Does Lagoa Run On?
Windows, Mac and Linux
Lagoa has specifically made MultiOptics for the “Cloud” and works exceptionally well in Google Chrome and Firefox browsers. Lagoa can work with just about any 3D model created in just about any 3D software package on the market today. You just drag and drop the model into the project, and it renders on the cloud.
What Are the System Requirements?
An internet connection
A browser capable of supporting WebGL (Chrome is the preferred choice to run Lagoa)
Chrome, Firefox, Safari (sorry we do not support Internet Explorer)
What is WebGL?
WebGL is the GPU OpenGL Library that runs natively inside of a web browser. We use it to render interactive 2D and 3D graphics, and while quite awesome to work with, WebGL is not necessary to view Lagoa.com but it is to render ‘MultiOptics’
How Do I Check That My Browser Supports WebGL?
Visit http://get.webgl.org/ - if you see a spinning cube you are good to go.
To check to see if WebGL has been disabled – visit: chrome://flags check for Disable WebGL
For your GPU capabilities in Chrome visit: chrome://gpu/
